SHAH ALAM - Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) former president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has announced his departure from the party with 12 other members.
Through a notice to the party's secretary-general Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah which had gone viral on social media, the decision was allegedly made due to disappointment with the party for severing ties with Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA).
"GTA's goal is to unite the Malay parties, non-governmental organisation and individuals who have principles and are pushing through the fight to defend religion, race, and nation. "Based on this perception, we chose to continue fighting alongside GTA," he said.
Pejuang's former deputy president Datuk Marzuki Yahya and former central executive council member Armin Baniaz Pahamin, were among 12 other who had left the party.
Last Dec, Dr Mahathir announced his recognition as Pejuang's chairman, but he remained a party member.
