SHAH ALAM - Umno vice president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri's explanation about the pressure he received when he was prime minister has caught former Umno youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin's attention.

In a comment he made on Ismail Sabri's instagram post, Khairy claimed that he too had been attacked by friends from his own party while he was in the Cabinet.

"We have done our best for the country such as recovering the country's economy and helped the nation recover from the pandemic. You can be proud of that," he wrote.

Prior to this, the former prime minister had come forward to correct a statement on the issue that he was being 'pressured' by his own party in an interview by a local media.

In the statement, Ismail Sabri voiced out his disappointment, which he has never done before.

He explained that there were reports that issued inaccurate statements about his previous interview.

"I am the Prime Minister from Umno. Despite having only 42 parliamentary seats, 14 out of the 29 cabinet ministers were given to Barisan Nasional members, in an effort to strengthen Umno.

"At the time it was as if I wasn't the prime minister from Umno, I was pressured by my own party's leadership. I was crushed back then as if Umno had became the opposition ," he said.

It has been reported Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi described Ismail's grouses as merely his own personal opinion.
