KUALA LUMPUR – Police have yet to receive any report on the alleged new robbery tactic, which has made its round on social media.
Police’s secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the police identified a viral message on social media that claimed that there was a new robbery tactic where robbers would place a phone, with its flashlight switched on, on the road to attract victims’ attention to stop.
"The message claimed that victims who stopped to pick up the phone would then be robbed.
"We can confirm that there is no police report received regarding the modus operandi,” she said in a statement.
The public was advised not to spread any fake news that would trigger fear and anxiety in the community.
"Action will be taken according to the law for anyone who spreads false messages or news,” she added.
