SHAH ALAM - Former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin takes up the challenge to be a DJ and will officially start his new career as a radio announcer with a local radio station Hot FM, next week.

Khairy commonly known as KJ would start his work at the radio station next Wednesday (Feb 15) and would handle HotFM's 'Bekpes Hot' team, alongside its three other announcers – Johan, Fara Fauzana and AG.

Khairy confirmed that he would join Hot FM in a telephone interview on Bekpes Hot today, where he would be on duty from 6am to 10am on weekdays.

On his Instagram stories, Khairy reposted Hot FM's post with the announcement with a caption of saying 'What's next'.

He also further teased his audience and wrote the same caption in a picture of him playing an electric guitar in a band along with three other performers.

Media Prima Audio (MPA) through a statement said the offer to Khairy was made in an open letter on the radio station’s Instagram account.

"Having him join Hot FM is in line with the radio station's tagline 'Yang Hangat Dan Terbaik' ('The hottest and the best')," the statement said.

MPA chief executive officer Nazri Noran said Khairy's presence would make it 'fresh and more relevant' to the listeners.

"Khairy is not only a great politician and leader, but also an influencer who has a great impact on Malaysians.

"KJ's presence will not only give listeners as well as a new dimension for the Malaysian radio stations," the statement said.

The offer came after Khairy was sacked from Umno last month for violating the party's constitution in the 15th General Election (GE15).
