KOTA KINABALU - Three Warisan State Assemblymen have become the first ever politicians to announce their departure from a party via a TikTok video.
The one minute and 26 second video showed the three Assemblymen - Norazlinah Arif (Kunak), Mohammad Mohamarin (Banggi) and Chong Chen Bin (Tanjong Kapor) - making a joint-statement.
Norazlinah said the decision was made after taking into consideration the party direction as well as views from the grassroots in their respective constituencies.
"After reviewing various aspects from all angles and considerations, we hereby declare our withdrawal from Warisan and choose to serve as independent Assemblymen, expressing our support to the Sabah state government under Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as Chief Minister.
"We hope to continue our service to the public we represent and we would like to thank and apologise to the president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, friends and party supporters,” she said in the video.
Norazlinah said their decision also meant they gave up all positions in Warisan at a Divisional or Supreme Council level.
"We saw that the time has come for political polemics and actions to destabilise the government to be stopped,” she said.
The former Warisan Wanita chief on Jan 16 denied claims that she would be leaving Warisan.
She had also denied signing a statutory declaration (SD) to switch parties as oer an issue that went viral.
Warisan previously had 19 Assemblymen after six from the party stated their intention to leave.
The Assemblymen who left previously were Datuk Hassan A Gani Pg Amir (Sebatik), Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob (Sindumin), Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi (Segama), Datuk Peter Anthony (Melalap), Datuk Juil Nuatim (Limbahau) and Rina Jainal (Kukusan).
