SHAH ALAM - Wanita Umno secretary Datuk Rosni Sohar has denied claims that the wing chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad held a meeting to force State Wanita Chiefs to support her, stating the accusations were not true.
Rosni said there were no such State Wanita Chief meetings held as reported yesterday.
"Several accusations were rampant on social media regarding the support towards the Wanita Umno chief. Some tabloids released a statement that the women from certain divisions had asked Noraini to withdraw.
"Some stated that she called a meeting to force votes from each division. Some released support figures towards individuals contesting.
"I want to state as Wanita Umno Secretary that the accusations were untrue. There was no meeting held as reported and the same applies to those allegedly being forced to support Noraini, the numbers stated were false,” she said in a statement on Monday.
It was reported yesterday that over half of Umno's Wanita Division chiefs had urged Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil to return and lead the Wanita wing.
Kota Melaka Wanita Umno chief Datuk Haryaty Hamdzah said 147 Umno Wanita Division chiefs decided on that stand in a meeting with Shahrizat recently.
Rosni said state wings which had stated their support towards Noraini and her deputy Datuk Norliza Rahim to continue leading Wanita Umno had done so in their own volition.
"It was in line with the motion brought in the previous Wanita General Assembly,” she explained.
Rosni hoped for the Wanita wing to focus on state elections preparations in six states soon.
She said the wing must focus on improving the work of the Jalinan Rakyat (JR) movement in the six states and not let the elections affect the work done.
