SINGAPORE - "I am also a fan of AR Rahman,” quipped Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.
"I enjoy his genre of songs which are more religious. Now he has been composing a number of spiritual music songs,” he told the Malaysian media here today.
Zambry is in the republic ahead of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s official visit tomorrow.
Earlier, before departing for Singapore this morning, Zambry met the Oscar-winning music composer at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
"I bumped into the legendary Indian composer and musician AR Rahman at KLIA just now. What a lucky day!!!,” he remarked on his Facebook page.
He also shared some pictures taken with AR Rahman.
The Oscar-winning Indian music composer celebrated his 30 years of musical journey in Malaysia last night, in a mega concert before a 60,000 crowd at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
Zambry described that among his favourite songs based on Zikir (Zikr) composed by AR Rahman were those titled ‘Hasbi Rabbi Zikr’.
"The rendition is very nice,” he said while singing a few lines.
AR Rahman’s hit song "Jai Ho” for Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire also ranks as Zambry’s favourite.
Last night’s "Secret of Success: Live in Malaysia 2023” was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
AR Rahman started his career in the film industry in 1992, and since then he has risen to become one of India's most influential and successful musicians. He won two Academy Awards for best original music score and best original song in 2009 for his musical score Slumdog Millionaire - BERNAMA
