SHAH ALAM - Former Umno Ketereh chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa lambasts Umno’s ‘cleansing’ move, saying it will only create more dirt because the real source of dirt remains in the party.
Annuar said the move would only create more dirt, as the people with power in the party monopolise power, and led it based on a false narrative of their own making which would bring the party into a state of ruin.
"If the leadership is good, then the fight is right and with good intentions. If the leadership is wrong, the foundation and goals have been thrown away, the fight will go astray,” he said in a Facebook post.
Annuar, who is also the former Ketereh MP said the purpose of the dismissal and suspension were clear as removing people who disagreed was the easiest way for someone to stay in power.
"The people have been giving signals but unfortunately they are still in denial. They prefer to blame the people, the voters and everyone else, except themselves,” he stated.
He also criticised those in power, who he claimed wanted everyone to succumb to their false narrative, and anyone who went against them would be labelled a traitor.
"To my friends who are fighting and trying to tell the truth and improve the party from being damaged, I say well done.
"I hope everyone is calm and patient. Believe me, telling the truth is expensive. Even if they are in power now, there is still someone more powerful,” he said.
He told those affected to remain principled, dare to speak the truth, and always fight for the right foundation and goal as there were many more battles ahead.
"Give Umno to them so they can make it a personal shield and their own private business. We keep fighting our way. God willing,” he concluded.
Annuar’s statement came after Umno’s announcement last night, where several of its members were sacked and suspended.
Former Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin and former Selangor Umno liaison committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar were sacked, while Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammudin Hussein was suspended.
Among other members who have been suspended from the party for six years were former Umno Deputy Youth Chief Shahril Hamdan, Umno Youth Exco Fathul Bari Mat Jahya, former Jempol MP Salim Mohd Sharif and former Johor State Exco Maulizan Bujang.
The decision was announced after Umno’s supreme council meeting last night following by Khairy’s previous allegations that there were dirty tactics to ensure that Umno’s two top positions were not contested at the recent general assembly (PAU).
It is understood that the disciplinary action was taken against the Umno leaders is linked to efforts to sabotage the party in the general election.
