SHAH ALAM - Angkatan Wanita Amanah Negara (Awan) Nasional strongly condemns the burning of the Quran at a demonstration led by a Swedish far-right politician in Stockholm.
Awan Nasional International Bureau Vice Chief and Director Anfaal Saari said the act was nonsensical and an immature gimmick to spike anger among Muslims.
"If anyone has any issues with the Holy Quran, the way forward is to engage in dialogues and discussions with Muslim scholars regarding its contents instead of burning the Holy Quran.
"The act of burning the holy scriptures simply due to disagreements on their contents is barbaric and has no place in today’s modern and civilised world," she said.
Further, Anfaal stressed that freedom of expression should never be abused to hinder peace.
"Such an act must never be misused as bait to incite hatred between people.
"Muslim nations all around the globe condemned the act of burning the Holy Quran and labelled this as a senseless and shameful act by Swedish authorities for allowing this to happen," she said.
Therefore, Awan Nasional demanded the Swedish government issue an apology and act quickly on the Islamophobic sentiments in the country.
It was reported that a far-right political party leader, Rasmus Paludan, had set fire to the Quran outside of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm, Sweden.
His impudent act has received huge backlash and responses from leaders around the world, most of whom have condemned his actions.
