SHAH ALAM - Perikatan Nasional (PN) has claimed that some parties have deliberately created a negative perception of the party, after a representative of the party spoke in English in a meeting with residents living in a rural area.
Its Federal Territories information chief , Mahathir Md Rais said it was a deliberate attempt to embarrass PN leaders and its supporters in rural areas.
"Their perception is that PN supporters do not know how to speak English. Is it wrong of us to convey a message to the people in English?" he said in a statement on Wednesday.
The assumption that PN supporters only consists of people from rural areas is also not true.
He explained that PN supporters can speak fluently in English and Malay even if they lived in different locations.
"Instead of language, the people's complaints and worries are much more important and the bottom line is we can communicate well," he said.
Mahathir added that the use of social media usage is one of the efforts used to convey messages and concerns to each other.
" Malay or English, so far we have not heard any complaints and we use these two languages to give explanations because this is how we meet the people on field," he said.
