KUALA BESUT - The half-naked body of a woman was found floating in the waters of Perhentian Island at about 11.30 am yesterday.
Besut district deputy police chief, DSP Azrol Anuar Nor, said that the angler who found the body pulled and tied the remains to a rope to prevent it from being swept away by the currents, before lodging a police report at the Perhentian Island police station.
"However, police efforts to reach the location of the body had to be postponed yesterday, due to the rough seas and strong winds," he said, adding that police only reached the site of the incident, which is located about six nautical miles from Perhentian Island, at about 11.15 am today following calmer sea conditions.
"The identity of the body and her nationality has yet to be ascertained, and the initial examination found that there were no injuries on the victim's body,” he said.
He added that thus far police have yet to receive a report on missing persons in this district, and further investigation will be carried out to ascertain the identity of the body.
The body was then sent to the Besut Hospital Forensic Unit for further action, said Azrol. - BERNAMA
