KUALA LUMPUR - Actor Sharnaaz Ahmad Basir Ahmad has pleaded not guilty at the magistrate's court, here, today, to causing hurt to a condominium resident in Jalan Dutamas, six months ago.
The 38-year old made the plea after the charge was read to him before magistrate Atiqah Mohamed @ Mohamad Saim.
The "Juvana" actor was accused of voluntarily causing hurt to the 26-year-old victim at a condominium in Jalan Dutamas, here, at 8.30pm on June 16, last year.
The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries an imprisonment for up to a year or a maximum fine of RM2,000 or both, if convicted.
During the proceeding, deputy public prosecutor Nadia Eleena Jamaluddin Akbal proposed a RM5,000 bail to be imposed on Sharnaaz as the person being summoned.
However, his lawyer Datuk Abu Bakar Isa Ramat pleaded for a lower amount of bail saying that his client has given full cooperation throughout the investigation.
"Sharnaaz is a famous actor, a divorcee with a five-year old son to care for," he said.
After hearing submissions by both parties, Atiqah granted Sharnaaz RM2,000 bail with one surety.
The court set March 6 for re-mention.
Last year, it was reported that a 38-year old actor had been remanded for three days after he was suspected of punching and kicking a condominium resident.
In September 2017, the actor was fined RM1,200 by the magistrate's court here for causing injury to a Bangladeshi golf club worker by punching the victim.He was charged under the same Section.
He was accused of committing the offence against Gous Ali at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Brickfields at 5.30pm on July 22, 2017.
