KUALA LUMPUR - The decision on whether the two top posts of Umno will be contested, will be revealed at the end of the 2022 Umno General Assembly (PAU) debate session tomorrow.
Isham Jalil, Umno's information chief, confirmed that there were motions that the positions of president and deputy president not be contested.
"This was brought by representatives from Negeri Sembilan and was supported by representatives from Terengganu, Selangor and Wanita Umno.
"Anyone can bring up a proposal, it is up to them. The president had also informed us that it was up to the Supreme Council (MKT) to decide on the matter.
"But today (Friday), there was a representative who brought a motion, and we leave it to them. We are still in debate.
"If tomorrow all representatives from the states reach an agreement, that will be the unanimous agreement from the Umno representatives," he said at a press conference in conjunction with PAU 2022 here, on Friday.
Isham explained, the party will make a decision after the conference on Saturday.
"After that, we will see how the procedure is.
"Just like once before, we brought a motion not to cooperate with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) during the 15th General Election (GE15), the same regulation will be applied," he explained.
