KUALA LUMPUR - Umno Puteri chief Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan reveals that the party leadership has, all these while, make light on the importance of having a robust social media presence in the country's political scene.
The party's trivialisation of the power that social media has in influencing voters was aried by Zahida in her winding-up speech during the Puteri wing debate at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL) here today.
"Every year in the Umno General Assembly, we [Puteri] has always stressed that social media should be made as a core business for the party, that it should be taken seriously.
"If we can invest a lot in the party machinery, then why can't we even think why social media should be an important task force," was Zahida's poser.
She added that Puteri Umno will do a post-mortem to study why Umno failed to woo the youth into voting the Malay party in the 15th General Election (GE15) where the party lost miserably, winning only 26 parliamentary seats.
"We cannot afford to be left behind again where social media is concerned. We must reform our existing social media.
"We have to be focused and deliver segmentised viralities directly to targeted groups," said Zahida.
