KUALA LUMPUR - Taking a leaf from Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) play book, Umno leadership was told that it needs to groom its own set of social media influencers in order to woo voters and restore its clout.
Umno Puteri chief, Datuk Seri Zahida Zarik Khan said this was a crucial step in urging wooing youth and the Malay voters to vote for the party.
During her policy speech at the 2022 Umno General Assembly, she said it was time the party used social media to their advantage.
"Garner social media influencers that are able to educate the youth, change their mindset on politics and stability especially now for the upcoming state polls.
"I urged the top leadership in the party to focus on this method and prioritise this so that we able to manage this perception war,” she stressed.
Zahida added this point was also mentioned by Umno deputy president, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan yesterday in his speech.
"This is a cognitive war and should be understood by all levels and the party should make thorough preparations to understand this war,”.
She said social media should be converted into the party’s core strategy and weapon as a whole at every level.
In the last general elections, Perikatan Nasional's successful use of social media platforms such as Tik Tok, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter proved to be a winning formula for the party.
