PETALING JAYA - 'Varisu’, one of two Kollywood movies showing in Malaysia starting today, marked the first time a film's first-day first-show screening in the country took place as early as 4am.
‘Varisu’ and ‘Thunivu’ - starring top Kollywood actors Vijay and Ajith Kumar respectively - are released here today in conjunction with the Pongal (Harvest) festival this month.
The films are competing at the box office, with the two Kollywood stars banking on their respective huge fan bases in Malaysia - considered a key market for big-budget Tamil films outside India.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Malik Streams Corporation - the distributor of 'Thunivu' - Datuk Abdul Malik Dasthigeer, said the collection of the much-anticipated movie for this year is expected to be a record breaker for Ajith Kumar, which is being released in 127 cinemas nationwide with more than 970 screenings.
"Some 1,800 tickets have been sold for the first-day first show screening of Thunivu in 10 theatres nationwide today with the support of Malaysia Ajith Fan Club," he told Bernama after attending the first-day first show screening of 'Thunivu' at Lotus Five Star State Cineplex in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Malik also said that 'Thunivu', a heist film written and directed by H.Vinoth and produced by Boney Kapoor, is catered towards youngsters, receiving a rating of P13.
President and Founder of Malaysia Ajith Fan Club, Devendran Dave, said the screening of 'Thunivu', which began at 8am in Lotus Five Star State Cineplex, was attended by close to 600 people. - BERNAMA
