KOTA KINABALU - Decisions made by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor have to be respected, said newly appointed Industrial Development Minister Phoong Jin Zhe today.
Phoong, who is among three new faces in Hajiji's new Cabinet following a reshuffle announced today, stressed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had also stated support for Hajiji.
"I feel that the Prime Minister only stated that he supported Hajiji and placed his confidence in Hajiji. It was just that. When we met with Anwar, it was a simple meeting. He was only at the Chief Minister's official residence for 30 minutes, he discussed and informed that he did not have a problem in supporting Hajiji to carry on leding Sabah.
"My feeling is that this is the decision made by the Chief Minister, we need to accept and respect it. With this support, particularly from the seven Pakatan Harapan (PH) assemblymen, I believe there will be stability in Sabah," said Phoong after the swearing in ceremony at the Istana Seri Kinabalu today.
He also called for certain quarters to stop trying to interfere in decisions made by the leadership in Sabah.
"There should not be interference from the Federal level as the people of Sabah are watching. The people of Sabah want this episode to end and this was the decision that was made, which might not satisfy certain parties but at the same time it can also be described as unity," he said, adding the the appointments showed that the Sabah government was inclusive with representation from the Chinese community in the new Cabinet.
"I am proud to be included in the Cabinet, not just for the Chinese community, but for the people of Sabah. I will work hard for all the people of Sabah," he said.
