SHAH ALAM - The Saudi Arabian government has agreed to revert to the original quota of Hajj pilgrims from Malaysia this year, doubling the figure from 14,306 last year back to 31,600 as was the case prior to the Covid 19 pandemic.

The decision was inked based on consensus following a special meeting between Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar and Suadi Arabia's Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dr Tawfiq Fawzan Al-Rabia on Monday.

Mohd Na'im, in a statement on his Facebook page, said he represents Malaysians in expressing gratitude and thanks to the Saudi Arabian government.

"I am confident that assessments have been made in all aspects to ensure the safety of future pilgrims from all over the world while fulfilling the fifth pillar of Islam," he said on Tuesday.

He added that in the same meeting, Tawfiq also praised Malaysia especially Tabung Haji (TH) for their excellent, systematic handling of the Hajj and the exemplary level of service to the pilgrims.

"I affirm that TH will always strive to provide the best service to prospective Malaysian pilgrims and will comply to the rules of the Saudi Arabian government," Na'im said.
