SINGAPORE - Singapore has been allocated its official quota of 900 Haj places for 2023, announced the republic’s Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, Masagos Zulkifli Masagos Mohamad.

In his latest Facebook update, the minister said he and the Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Haj and Umrah Dr Tawfiq Fawzan Al Rabiah had signed the Haj Agreement for Singapore in preparation for the upcoming 2023 Haj season in June.

Masagos Zulkifli is currently in Saudi Arabia, at the invitation of Dr Tawfiq, to attend the Conference and Exhibition for the Haj and Umrah Services in Jeddah.

"Haj is an important pillar of Islam and many Muslims around the world, including our Singaporean pilgrims, look forward to performing their pilgrimage.

"While we hope to get more places for Haj, we seek your understanding that the pandemic is still upon us and the Saudi Haj authorities are putting pilgrims’ health, safety and security as a top priority,” he said.

In their bilateral meeting, Masagos Zulkifli said Dr Tawfiq assured him that he (Dr Tawfiq) and his team understand the strong aspiration of Singapore’s prospective pilgrims and will review the republic’s requests for more Haj places.

"I thank him and we both agreed to continue to work closely together to help more Singaporean pilgrims to perform their Haj in future,” he said.

The minister noted that the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore or Muis will be working closely with the Saudi Haj and Umrah Ministry and the Singapore Travel General Sales Agents (GSAs) for the 2023 Haj packages.
