PETALING JAYA - Sinar Daily's upcoming podcast session hopes to shine a light on the stories and plight of Palestinian prisoners.
The podcast session will highlight and discuss in detail the stories from the books by author Puan Sri Norma Hashim entitled "The Prisoners' Diaries", "Dreaming for Freedom - Palestinian Child Prisoners Speak" and "A Shared Struggle".
In an interview with Sinar Daily on its Fireside Chat programme, Norma said this was a way to humanise the struggle and stories of Palestinians.
"We don't want to hear the voices of other people talking about Palestine. We need to hear what Palestinians have to say in their own voice," she said.
For Norma, every story has a unique perspective. It might sound similar but not all stories were the same.
"I hope to highlight the stories from a wide range of prisoners, children, women and men.
"I also hope in that way, Malaysians and other people would feel connected and hear the Palestinian stories from their own perspective and voice,” she elaborated.
Norma has written three books which focuses on a compilation of Palestinian prisoners’ stories; namely The Prisoner’s Diaries (2013), Dreaming for Freedom - Palestinian Child Prisoners Speak (2016) and A Shared Struggle (2021).
Throughout the process of writing the books, Norma said she felt shocked at what the Palestinians had to go through and endure while being imprisoned by the Zionists.
She felt that it was important to tell the stories of these prisoners as it humanised them instead of reducing them to mere statistics.
