TUMPAT - A decaying body, believed to be a man with four gunshot wounds, was found hanging on a tree at the Sungai Golok riverbank near the illegal base of Belakang Berek 12, Bukit Bunga, Tanah Merah on Sunday.

The body was found by a fisherman at 3pm.

Kelantan Police chief, Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said based on the condition of the body, the victim is believed to have died two weeks ago.

"Initial investigation by the police found that the remains of the man had only pants on, with no shirts or identification documents found on him.

"The post-mortem result by the pathologist revealed that the cause of death was the four gunshots to the head," he said at a press conference after the PDRM 2021 Best Housing Management Awards Ceremony at the Wakaf Bharu Police Station here on Monday.

Also present, Tumpat District Police chief, Assistant Commissioner Amran Dolah.

Muhamad Zaki informed that the imperfect condition of the body also made it difficult to identify the victim, and the absence of bullet casings at the scene also deterred the police's efforts to determine the type of gun that was used.

"Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) injection scar couldn't be found on the body due to decomposition.

"However, it is believed that the victim was shot from a close range based on the mark of the left, right, or back and front penetration," he said.

He said, investigations were underway, with local police contacting border authorities in neighbouring countries to obtain information on the deceased or on the incident.

"We are also reviewing missing persons reports in other districts to help in the investigation.

"The investigation is carried out under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said.
