SHAH ALAM: Incarcerated former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today penned an emotional New Year message, describing his life in solitary, away from his family.

In a lengthy post on Instagram, he also expressed his feelings about the 'injustice' and 'cruelty' he faced in his trials, which led to his imprisonment in 2022.

"To whom else do (we) need to appeal, and what other defence opportunities exist at this time that not only test but also destroy.

"This has challenged the endurance of (this) God's slave, who is getting weaker and more fragile.

Najib also subtly described longing for his family in that post, with a picture of his son, Norashman, and grandson.

"Time is valuable; it does not belong to anyone, especially for the old who are waiting for their time to "return to God."

"Separated (from the family), not being able to see the children, not watching the grandchildren grow up. Missing those meaningful moments.

"I could only hold on to the memories and pictures that I have. "This year (without them) has come to an end for this longing heart," he added.

He ended his post with a new year's message: "May the year 2023 bring happiness and success to all."

Najib is currently serving a prison sentence after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and sentences of 12 years' jail and a RM210 million fine for being found guilty of embezzling RM42 million in funds belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.
