SHAH ALAM – The government has activate the Disaster Management Committee in light of the floods, with readiness being upgraded from time to time to face floods which are expected to happen in high-risk areas.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the temporary relief centres (PPS) had also been equipped with basic needs for affected victims.
"The preparedness level is constantly being improved to face current and impending disasters, especially in high-risk areas.
"The relief centres (PPS) have also been equipped with basic needs for affected victims,” he said in a statement today.
Zahid urged all residents in flood-prone areas to obey the authorities' instructions and evacuate early before the situation worsens.
"I urge all residents who are in flood-prone areas to obey the instructions of the authorities and evacuate early before the situation worsens in accordance with the danger level continuous rain warning by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia),” Zahid said in his statement.
Zahid also hoped that the head of the family would constantly monitor the movement of the family in the flood area to prevent unwanted things from happening to their respective families.
The statement also stated that monsoon rains were expected to continue until Dec 25, while continuous rain was likely to occur in the east and north of the Peninsula and from Dec 21-22, constant heavy rain is also expected to be concentrated in Pahang and Johor.
The Rural and Regional Development Minister also reminded all control posts to ensure that operational assets were intact and ready for use.
