KUALA LUMPUR - The Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir urged the people to look into the issue of child marriage seriously.
Child marriage is a worldwide problem that affects all religions, races, and communities, not just a problem in Malaysia, he added.
"Child marriage robs children of their childhood and their rights to education.
"I congratulate SUHAKAM and UNICEF on their endless efforts to end child marriage. Young girls should be in school and not be wives and mothers”, he said on his speech on Human Rights Day Forum 2022 at Royale Chulan Hotel today.
Tuanku Mukhriz also urged the unity government to collaborate with SUHAKAM, and Unicef to look into this issue because children need to go to school, not be married.
"The government has made significant efforts throughout the years to improve the lives of those who are marginalized.
"CSOs and NGOs have also filled in the gaps on their own initiative to further improve these populations' standard of living," he added
He also expressed his gratitude for Yayasan Chow Kit, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) for providing food and giving education for all children around Chow Kit.
They wre around 350 participants and 150 online participants who participated in the Human Rights Day Forum 2022 earlier, in suporting the importance of human rights in achieving freedom, dignity and justice.
