PUTRAJAYA - The absence of Treasury Secretary-General Datuk Seri Asri Hamidin during Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official clock in as Finance Minister at the Treasury building on Tuesday raises some questions.
Speculations had arisen that Asri was allegedly put on leave were further strengthened when Anwar, in a press conference, announced that the Special Financial Advisor membership and access to the country's financial information would be discussed with senior officials of the ministry as well as the new secretary-general.
"I will discuss with Tan Sri Hassan Marican and of course I will consult with senior officials and the new Treasury secretary-general," he said.
Anwar however had not explained who would replace Asri's position in the Treasury.
He said this while commenting on the membership of the special advisor led by the former president and Chief Executive Officer of Petronas Hassan.
At press time, Sinar is awaiting the response of Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali regarding Asri's status.
Asri, 56, was appointed for the position two years ago.
