SHAH ALAM - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants to be seen as relevant among the Malay-Muslims in this country Pas has claimed.
In a Facebook post its vice president Datuk Idris Ahmad said the announcement by Anwar to reduce the gambling draw rate from 22 to eight times a year and continuously linking Perikatan Nasional to the issue, is so that he may seem relevant particularly to the Malay-Muslim majority.
"The issue of gambling is not a petty issue. This touches the sensitivity of Malays and Muslims because gambling is a great sin and the mother of corruption in a society.
" He knows that he has less support in this community therefore he keeps attacking PN, stating that we are politically funded by these gambling operators, the real issue is actually this how can these operators obtain profits so high that they can afford to sponsor political parties? " This matter needs to be given serious attention and investigated. However, this is not something new as Datuk Nallakaruppan who's the former director of Magnum once claimed to have sponsored Anwar when he was the Deputy Prime Minister," he wrote on his Faceboolk page.
Anwar on Monday had announced that the frequency of special gambling draws will be reduced to eight times a year starting from January 2023.
Idris said Pas was ready to volunteer to help PH governed states that intend to implement the policy of banning gambling as enforced by states under the current PN-Pas administration.
"It would be great if the issues were resolved with each PH-BN state following the footsteps of the Pas-PN states that banned the use of premises for gambling activities.
"This will surely attract more Malay-Muslim voters towards the government," he stated.
