PUTRAJAYA - The focus of the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry will be to ensure basic food suffiency with a reasonable price tag.
Its newly-appointed minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said these two main issues will be the main thrust for the ministry to work on, apart from efforts to maintain the prices of poultry and seafood.
"These will be the ministry's main agenda and it will be actively discussed in the coming days with relevant ministry officers.
"These issues were critical, considering the world economy which is forecasted to decline next year," he told reporters today.
Earlier, the former defence minister, better known as Mat Sabu, had officially clocked in at Wisma Tani.
He was welcomed by the ministry's secretary-general Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid, along with other ministry's officials.
As pledged by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in his election pledge, food security especially suffieciency will be the first-order-of-the-day, Mohamad.
"This will be our main priority although this very much depends on glocal situation. The crisis between Russia and Ukraine is also another factor which would cause economic recession.
"We can't say it won’t happen, but we will try to overcome it from time to time,” he said.
