SHAH ALAM - Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Secretary-General Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi today thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his appointment as the Works Minister.
He expressed his appreciation at being appointed as a minister in Anwar's newly formed cabinet under the unity government.
" I would also like to thank our Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who is also the chairman of GPS for still trusting me to represent the party and Sarawak and to serve for the federal government," he said.
Alexander added that the appointment was an honour and a responsibility that he would take seriously to support the unity government's efforts in bringing the nation forward.
" I understand the responsibility of heading this ministry will come with big challenges, however I will give my full commitment and effort to ensure that the ministry runs smoothly.
" I would also like to give my assurance that we will continue with past policies that have been effective and that we will improve on future policies of the ministry that will benefit the people and the nation," he added.
Alexander said he hopes to work together with all the civil servants in the ministry as a team towards building a better nation.
" I would also like to stress that I am a minister for all and not just for Sarawakians, therefore I will ensure that all efforts and initiatives taken under this ministry will be for the benefit of all Malaysians including Sabah & Sarawak." he stated.
He added that with the announcement of the new cabinet under the unity government, he hoped that everyone could focus on moving forward and work towards the betterment of the country and the wellbeing of the people.
" I hope we can put aside our differences and focus on what is important which is our efforts to rebuild this nation."
In a announcement this evening, Anwar named Alexander as the Works Minister in his newly formed cabinet.Alexander was formerly the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister in the previous government.
