SHAH ALAM: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says that he will be announcing the cabinet lineup for the Pakatan Harapan unity government this evening.
During his speech at an event in Tambun, Perak, he said that he had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah this morning to present the cabinet lineup.
"I had presented (the proposed lineup) to His Majesty and Insyaallah I will announce the cabinet lineup later this evening,” he said.
Anwar said that he had multiple conversations with the YDPA so that the ministerial lineup could be formed swiftly.
"There are hundreds of people who are eligible, those who have to be chosen are of course more limited because as I mentioned before, we do not want too many ministers, we do not want too many minister-level ambassadors because we want to save money and funds so that we can return them to the people.
"Leadership is a responsibility, not a privilege.
"The problem of corruption, the people's property being seized, must be stopped immediately," he said.
The new Cabinet members, he said, would be called to attend a special meeting on Monday to discuss and finalise new government policies.
Anwar also mentioned that he was meant to clear his evening for tonight's cabinet announcement, but he was unable to resist the requests of Tambun and Perak citizens.
Earlier, he had led the Friday prayers at the Masjid Muhammad Al-Fateh in his Tambun constituency before he headed to the ‘Kenduri Rakyat’ in Tambun where he made the announcement.
Anwar was sworn in as Malaysia's prime minister by the King last Thursday, following an election in which no coalition won a simple majority.
