SHAH ALAM - The new government should focus on addressing the five key points facing Malaysians at the moment.
Emir Research President Datuk Dr Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff said cost of living, improving the health system, improving the quality of education, affordable home ownership, reducing unemployment and underemployment.
He said these issues needs to be addressed as global recession was expected next year.
"These are the core issues in the short term that the government needs to focus on," he said.
Rais was the panelist on the Sinar Live programme titled Anwar PM10: Harapan Baharu Rakyat Malaysia.
Also present at the show which was broadcast live on all Sinar Harian digital platforms were political analyst Associate Professor Dr Sharifah Syahirah Syed Sheikh, Seberang Jaya State Assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin and former Kempas Assemblyman Datuk Tengku Putra Haron Aminurrashid Tengku Hamid Jumat.
Meanwhile, Rais said in terms of medium and long-term changes, the government needs to implement institutional reforms including ensuring the independence of the judiciary.
"If we follow this plan, we are on a trajectory to restore the country. Otherwise, we will be facing problems," he said.
