SHAH ALAM - A viral statement announcing that Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has resigned as Barisan Nasional chairman and Umno president, was false.
The fake news was debunked by Zahid himself, in a short posting Facebook, where he also shared a screengrab of the phony statement that had gone viral in social media.
"The letters circulated as follows are fake and was created by irresponsible people," read Zahid's Facebook post.
The bogus statement, dated yesterday, also claimed that Zahid's duties will be taken over by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Also mentioned, in the fabricated statement was that BN has reached a decision vis-a-vis the ongoing political deadlock between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) over the formation of government and the appointment of Prime Minister.
Malaysia has fallen into a limbo after neither parties that contested in the 15th General Election on November 19 have secured enough parliamentary seats to form a simple majority government.
