SHAH ALAM – Barisan Nasional (BN)’s loss in the 15th General Election on Nov 19 is not surprising, says Umno division leader.
Ketereh Umno division chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the party lost in the election because they failed to show the people that they could bring changes and not do what the people dislike.
He further said they missed the opportunity to prove to the people that they took their disapproval of corruption or embezzlement into consideration, and instead went into the election with the image that they wanted to defend certain individuals of the party.
"We lost because we failed to show the people that we would not do what the people don't like.
"We know they don’t like embezzlement, corruption but we got into the election with nothing but the image of certain individuals that made us look like our priority is to defend them.
"Our loss is not surprising actually,” he said on his Facebook live, today.
He said that BN lost the support of the Malays whose votes were scattered to Perikatan Nasional (PN) and other parties.
Annuar said it was not like the people were big fans of PN, but some of them decided to cast their votes for PN because they did not like the current BN.
He also declared that BN had the wrong strategy since they brought forward the one character that the people dislike, referring to the coalition’s president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The pressure to hold early elections came from Zahid, who also played a key role in severing the ties between his party and PN and Bersatu.
Following the defeat of BN in the GE15, many BN leaders voiced their demand for Zahid to resign from his position.
Among them were former National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique, Umno Youth vice-head Shahril Sufian Hamdan, Johor BN election operations director Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Kulai BN deputy chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor, Umno Youth exco member Datuk Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin and BN's candidate for Padang Serai Datuk Sivaraj Chandran.
