SHAH ALAM - The rakyat must remain calm as the country weather through the hung parliament situation.
Former Coalition of the All-Party Parliamentary Group of Malaysia (KRPPM) Integrity, Governance and Anti-Corruption said in a statement on Monday, the hung Parliament is a normal scenario in the parliamentary democratic system and has been handled well by other countries.
According to the statement, the people need to be confident in the maturity of the elected leadership as they reach a consensus to form a government that works for the well-being of the community.
"While there is a lot of speculation going on during this period, Malaysians should examine and understand the essence of Article 40(2)(a) and Article 43 (2)(a) enshrined in the Federal Constitution regarding the determination of the new government by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong based on the outcome of the negotiations of the political parties," it said.
According to the statement, as a coalition that previously represented the All-Parliamentary Group of Malaysia–Integrity, Governance and Anti-Corruption, the election that led to today's situation proves that the people have a different and mature stance in making the right choices.
Obviously, the distinction is not a symbol of instability, it is even a contingency situation that brings the people to recognise the uniqueness of democracy.
"However, it is an urgent need for a resolution to be reached and a government can be established quickly and carefully, as policies related to governance, integrity, economy, social and budget involving the interests of the rakyat should remain a priority and be implemented immediately.
"Therefore, the new government that was formed should truly perform, serve the rakyat and support the mandate of change for a more robust and dignified Malaysia.”
KRPPM consists of the Centre for Combating Corruption and Cronyism (C4), Institute of Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS), Head of Rasuah Busters Team, Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub; former CIMB Group Chairman Datuk Mohamed Arshad Raji; President of the National Patriot Association (Patriot) and Undi18.
