SHAH ALAM - Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) confirms that it will be backing Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Prime Minister in forming the next federal government.
The matter was announced by GPS president Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg in a statement today which was also confirmed by Muhyiddin himself in an ensuing statement issued shortly after.
Muhyiddin in the statement said he has reported to the PN supreme council that he met Abang Johari earlier this morning to discuss about the formation of the government.
"He (Abang Johari) informed me of the readiness of the GPS members of Parliament (MPs) to support me as the 10th Prime Minister.
"I have also met with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor who also expressed similar sentiments and support for me,” Muhyiddin said.
As PN chairman, Muhyiddin claimed that he had secured enough support from the MPs to enable him to be appointed by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong as the 10th Prime Minister in accordance to the Federal Constitution.
