SUBANG - In mere minutes, confusions have blanketed the country after Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim now retorts that it is the coalition led by that has the actual numbers to form the next government.
He remarked that the earlier announcement by Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that the latter’s coalition have secured enough parliamentary seats to form government was erroneous and impossible.
In a bid to lend weight to his claim, Anwar stressed that PH has crossed the decisive number of 112 seats out of the 221 parliamentary seats that were contested in yesterday’s national polls.
"We have crossed that 112 number, that’s important. We have reached an understanding and agreement to form a government.
"It is impossible for them (PN) to do so [form government] because we have it in writing and [we will] notify the Palace accordingly,” Anwar claimed at a press conference at PH operations centre at the Grand Dorsett Subang.
Earlier today, Muhyiddin said the PN leadership held a special meeting tonight in which they agreed to commence negotiations on the formation of government and were open to parties willing to join hands with the exception of Pakatan Harapan.
He said so despite the results of six of the 220 seats contested were yet to be announced.
Similar to Anwar, Muhyiddin too remarked that he has recieved a letter from Istana Negara informing him about matters that had to be resolved as specified by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong presumably with regards to the formation of the next government.
"These matters require immediate action and discussions will be held tomorrow and will be finalised tomorrow evening. We will have to comply with what has been directed by Istana Negara," said Muhyiddin.
Asked whether cooperation with Pakatan Harapan was possible, Muhyiddin said that was not the case.
"PN will not work with PH. Not with PH," he said.
