SHAH ALAM - The push for Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to step has circulated on the social media after the results during the 15th General Election (GE15) sees BN lag far behind its two main rivals, Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Sinar Harian’s survey on Twitter found the hashtag #ZahidHamidiLetakJawatan had treneded trending on Twitter with over 260 tweets as of 1.26am this morning.
In addition, the keyword 'Zahid Hamidi' is also trending on Twitter when it gets over 600 tweets on Twitter.
A Twitter user who is also BN Exco, Ali Amir Razali voiced his discontent with Zahid who he described as making the decision only to 'save himself’.
As of 1am on Saturday, the official results of GE15 saw BN gain only 22 seats compared to its rivals PN with 49 seats and PH (46).
Previously, Zahid was the one who urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to dissolve Parliament to so that GE15 could be held faster, despite the urge of various parties including the Umno leadership to postpone the move.
As BN Chairman, he had also dropped some of BN's big name leaders who were previously ministers under Ismail Sabri's administration which raised questions among the party members.
In the meantime, it also suggested that Zahid's resignation was a former BN Secretary-General who was also among the incumbents of Parliament to be dropped as a candidate in GE15, Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
"In the end, the bad things I've described over the years and asked to be avoided are true.
"It's a sorrow. The Quran is true. The split makes you weak and lose strength.
"We organise consensus, we are labeled unfaithful. We ask not to break up, we're the ones who accept it. Now, where are we going? Do we want to forge the alignment that we reject? want to violate the decision of the PAU (Umno General Assembly) and the party again?
"Go back, enough with the destruction and listen to the voice of the people and understand the will of the people. Don't be arrogant," he said.
Zahid is currently facing 47 charges of breach of trust, bribery, money laundering involving Yayasan Akalbudi (YAB) funds in the High Court.
