KOTA MARUDU - Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) candidate Datuk Wetrom Bahanda is confident that he will win the Kota Marudu parliamentary seat, as he had 70 percent support from people in the constituency.
"For now, the spirit of renewing Kota Marudu is strong and I am confident now in the final stages to conclude our struggle for the next five years. I see a very positive development." he when met by reporters in Kampung Melangkap, here on Thursday.
Wetrom said he was not interested in being a 'giant killer ' or to topple big names here but if he achieved victory it will be for the future of Kota Marudu.
He said eventhough he had changed parties, he was confident he could gain support from the grassroots.
"This party is a local party and the spirit of the people under it are the same, the people want something new. We have a multitude of races, this is why the constituents are accepting of us," the former Bersatu member said.
The Kota Marudu Parliamentary seat will witness a six-corner fight with Wetrom being the biggest contender to incumbent Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili who is also the former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs).
Maximus who is also the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president had become the Kota Marudu MP since GE11 in 2004 and in GE14 he managed to maintain his seat by contesting using the Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket.
Other candidates vying for the Kota Marudu seat are Mohd Azmi Zulkiflee from Pejuang, Sharizal Denci from Muda, Jilid @ Zainuddin Kiminding from Warisan and independent candidate Norman Tulang.
