SHAH ALAM - DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng will be suing Perikatan Nasional (PN) information chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali for defamation.
In a statement today, Lim alleged that Azmin had defamed him by saying that he (Lim) had used the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) to chase down companies linked to MCA and was also responsible for new taxes on businesses targeting particularly Chinese businesses while he was finance minister.
Lim said he has instructed his lawyers to initiate the legal action against the Gombak candidate for making false statements against him in the run up to the 15th General Election (GE15).
He said Azmin had been targetting him by making unprovoked personal attacks based on lies in MCA and government-controlled papers.
"As one of the principal architects of the Sheraton Move, Azmin has been desperate in unsuccessfully trying to shed his "traitor" role.
"I had never used the IRB to target Chinese businessmen.
"Despite me asking Azmin repeatedly to show proof, he has failed to do so,” he said.
Previously, Lim denied that he had "chased corporations" for taxes.
He asserted that he provided several tax incentives to promote the economy, including a tax drop for small and medium-sized firms from 18 per cent to 17 per cent.
