SHAH ALAM - Youth and students have yet to completely understand the effects of corruption on the public as well as towards the country, as they assume it only involves individual wrongdoings. Social media influencer and teacher Zack Kirana said based on a learning session conducted by her in a class involving form five students, almost 50 per cent did not know the real impact of corruption on society and the country.

She said most of the students stated that corruption was basically demanding or taking money or favours in exchange for something, without deeply understanding how the vile action could ruin the country as well as causing people to suffer.

"I explained that acts of corruption are not limited to 'using' money but could also affect the development of the country when the funds that should be used for the country was wrongfully utilised by those who are greedy," she said.

Zack Kirana was speaking as a guest on the Kompas Rasuah Busters GE15 Special Edition programme titled 'If not now, when?' which was hosted by Sam Ghani and aired live on all Sinar Harian digital platforms on Wednesday.

She further explained that youth including students should be given a clear explanation regarding the dangers and effects of corruption because the matter is important.

" This is to educate them so that they know that is corruption is something that is very wrong and can affect society as a whole." She stressed this is because youth groups need to realise the importance of choosing a leader that is clean, credible and have high levels of integrity.

"It is sad when there are leaders involved in corruption, it is even sadder when it is the leaders that we have chosen and in the end they fall to corruption.

"The country needs the money to develop. In fact, the country also needs leaders who have a clean soul and who are not blinded by money in order to manage the country well," she said.
