SHAH ALAM - Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz has slammed politicians with little to no regard for national interests.

The Former International Trade and Industry Minister said as leaders, the interest of the people and the nation should come first.

" We may often be pondering what type of characters, do we want (and need) to govern the nation and people, to do all the needful, to stabilise the economy, to manage inflationary pressures.

" For the nation to function optimally, we need to get key drivers of the economy, recharge and assist sectors which are the main growth contributors," she said.

Rafidah noted that there was no shortage of expertise in the country to assist with crisis management and economic recovery planning, compared to the continual repetition of different proposals by political leaders who were only motivated by their political experience and ambitions.

" The incoherent pronouncements from many quarters, reflect the absence of national approaches and plans. It all appears to merely be the repetition of various touch and go paper shuffling exercises of the recent past,” she stressed.

She further added that it is unfortunate for Malaysians that politicians are primarily concerned with dividing the loot and spoils from the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15) instead of addressing issues such as the effects of the Covid-19 outbreak, economic dislocations, and market disruptions.

" It is very unfortunate that the daily focus is only on who will the Prime Minister, who will the Deputy Prime Minister who will partner with whom."

She urged the people to make wise decisions when selecting future parliamentary leaders.

" Clearly, we all must make the right choices of people to put in Parliament, people who will consequently be in a position to be considered for positions to govern the nation and people.

"Never before has Malaysia been in such a situation resulting from incompetent and irresponsible governance."

Rafidah, was the Minister of International Trade and Industry for 21 years until 2008, and is popularly dubbed Malaysia’s Iron Lady for her strong stand on issues affecting the nation.

She is expected to attend a Pakatan Harapan ceramah (talk) on Friday, one day before Malaysia heads to the polls.
