KUALA LUMPUR - Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Titiwangsa Khalid Samad said he won't pull a disappearing act if elected as a representative for the constituency.
"My competitor here, Johari Ghani has been building support since the day Rina Harun (former Titiwangsa MP) won in the last elections and disappeared.
"That's why I am here, I have the track record where I have proven that after winning I do not run as I have served three terms in Shah Alam," he told Sinar Daily at an event here.
Khalid said he was confident that he would be able to meet the needs of the constituents and that it won't be difficult for anyone to reach him should the need arises.
He further explained that he intends to solve all of the unfinished business left unattended by former Titiwangsa MP's if he manages to secure the parliament seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).
"I will speak out in Parliament for the people's rights here as there many residents in Kampung Baru who are in the phase of losing their lands.
"There are also many abandoned projects when Johari Ghani was the MP, I want to resolve these issues within my tenure.
"I have plans to solve home ownership issues and abolish the politicking system where more of the 'ketua kampung' in my constituency are politicians and not people who are eligible," he said when met at dinner event here today.
He admitted that the fight in Titiwangsa was tough, but that he had the mettle to go through with it.
" I had the opportunity to interact with the Titiwangsa community when I was the former Federal Territories minister. "Its going to be tough but the Malay votes are split and the issues of Kampung Baru works in our favour because all the so-called 'malay political parties' are silent about the unfair treatment given to the landowners of Kampung Baru." he said.
The Titiwangsa parliamentary seat will see a four-cornered fight between Khalid, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani (Barisan Nasional), PAS Dewan Muslimat deputy chief Dr Rosni Adam (Perikatan Nasional) and Pejuang Federal Territory Liasion Committee chairman Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan.
