KUALA LUMPUR : Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Batu parliamentary seat , P Prabakaran came forward to explain a post on his Instagram account that revealed a picture of a ballot paper for his constituency.
He said the image of the ballot paper was accidentally re-shared by t his social media manager from another user's post.
"My (social media) manager is sharing what people tag me for. So, when there was this one person (user) who made the post, my social media manager mistakenly shared it without my knowledge.
"After we acknowledge it, we deleted it (took it down from social media) directly. That's it. But we have never revealed any ballot papers," he said at a press conference in his office, here, on Monday.
Independent candidate Siti Zabedah Kasim or better known as Siti Kassim who is also contesting in Batu, had screenshot the post on Prabakaran's Instagram asking him to explain himself.
Prabakaran added , he was also unable to ascertain the authenticity of the ballot papers uploaded by the account.
At the same time, he also expressed a willingness to give a statement to the authorities if needed and acknowledged the mistake that happened.
"I'm discussing with my lawyer on how to handle this. Because it's not our fault, we did not upload it, other people did but my social media manager mistakenly shared, that's all
"If we upload it, it's indeed wrong under the law," he said.
The act of sharing or disclosing ballot papers is an offence under the Election Offences Act 1954.
