KOTA KINABALU –Former foreign minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman made an appearance at a Pakatan Harapan (PH) programme, attended by its chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Sepanggar.
In the Rise of the Sepanggar People programme, Anifah who is also The Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) president gave a speech and informed the crowd that he would help PH candidates.
" I’m the president of a small party but I want to be the voice for the children of Sabah.
" As for the reason for why I am not contesting, I want to help Anwar and aid in the campaign for PH candidates," he said on Saturday.
"This is an opportunity for us to decide who would win, the political scene now needs a leader that could overcome the problem of economic recession, and there is no one other than the former finance minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.” he stressed.
Anifah then claimed that he was offered a position as a Senator by Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as a reward for not contesting the Kimanis Parliament seat.
"I was asked not to contest in my area in Kimanis and the Umno president promised me that he would give me the position of Foreign minister and appoint me as a Senator.
"I said that was not what I wanted, what I want is to carry out my responsibilities according to what is written in the constitution and also the Malaysian Agreement 1963 (MA63), that is my struggle,” he said.
The Malaysia Agreement is a legal document that spells out the terms for the formation of the Federation of Malaysia. It was signed in London on 9 July 1963 between Great Britain, the Federation of Malaya, Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak.
The former Kimanis MP said his focus has always been his responsibilities towards the people in Sabah eventhough he had been given a warning letter by the powers that be in carrying out his duties.
Anifah elaborated that the return of the 40 per cent revenue to Sabah would give its people an abundance of opportunities.
Meanwhile, Anwar in his speech said he wanted Sepanggar to be a ‘mountain of hope’ through PH candidate Mustapha Sakmud to ensure that PH is able to form the government.
"Sepanggar must change to become the mountain of hope because we must ensure this election we take Putrajaya, enough with politicians who are selfish.
"Enough with the trickery, enough with the scandals, enough of buying ships which is not being ready, enough with purchasing a helicopter with it not arriving, enough of using Felda’s money to deceive the people, just call it an agency, whether it’s bumiputera, national or state, it is indeed funds being stolen,” he said.
