KUALA LUMPUR - Applications for ‘walkabouts’ permits only need to be made once throughout the 15th general election (GE15) campaign period, police said today.

Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) GE15 operations director Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali said the matter, which falls under subsection 24B(3) of the Election Offences Act (Act 5), was for both parliamentary and state constituencies.

If the constituency being contested involves two or more police districts, the application needs to be submitted to any one of the district police headquarters, he said.

"The permit application is to allow PDRM to take necessary measures to ensure candidates can campaign smoothly,” he said in a statement today.

Hazani, who is also Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department head, said candidates must ensure that any clashes between political parties are avoided and that there is no verbal or physical provocation during their walkabout campaign programmes. - BERNAMA
