SHAH ALAM - The service disruption of the Kelana Jaya Light Rail Transit (LRT) is expected to be resolved in less than seven days.
Prasarana chief executive officer Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah said it was the maximum expected duration by the technical team to settle the issue.
"We do not want to (suspend services) for three days but the problems are not solved within the duration.
"We will try our best to solve the problem completely within the seven-day duration.
"This is a serious problem that has never happened before. Our engineers have found a solution and each time it was implemented, it would last for a day or two. This meant that the problem has yet to be identified," he said in a press conference, today.
In the press conference, he said there were several components of the automatic train control (ATC) system that were almost reaching the end of its life cycle.
However, he denied the issue of allocation as the reason to why early prevention was not taken to change the spare parts.
"There is no issue of allocation, we did expect that it has to be changed as it was reaching its life expectancy.
"We received the approval from the board of directors for that purpose. We have the allocation and approval, the incident itself was unexpected," he explained.
He said Rapid KL was taking the initiative to prepare free busses throughout the disruption of services to accommodate passengers and reduce congestion at the affected stations.
He said a total of 73 busses were prepared involving five LRT stations which were from Ara Damansara to Pasar Seni, Ara Damansara to Kelana Jaya, Kelana Jaya to Pasar Seni, Pasar Seni to Masjid Jamek and Masjid Jamek to Dato Keramat.
He said he would look into compensating the approximately 200,000 affected passengers.
