KUALA TERENGGANU - After forming an alliance with an Umno warlord in Perlis, Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang speaks glowingly of Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) prospect in capturing the northernmost state in the peninsular.

"We want to make waves not only in Arau, but in the whole of Perlis as well,” said Abdul Hadi at press conference here after submitting his candidacy for the Marang parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Hadi was referring to PN’s decision to allow Perlis Umno heavyweight, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim to contest for the Arau parliamentary seat under the coalition’s banner following the latter’s fallout with Umno due to him not being nominated to defend his incumbent seat.

"We want to capture Perlis; after Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah [states that are currently governed by Pas]; Perlis will be next,” added Hadi.

Shahidan will be facing BN’s Datuk Rozabil Abd Rahman, Pakatan Harapan's Fathin Amelia and Gerakan Tanah Air's Abdul Razak Abdul Khalek in the fight for Arau.

Perlis has always been BN's stronghold, the coalition has held the state since Malaya had its first election in 1955.
