SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) predicts monsoon season to start earlier on Nov 7 and to continue til March 2023.

MetMalaysia Director-General Muhammad Helmi Abdulla said it could potentially cause floods in lower areas and beside rivers due to continuous rain expected.

"If the heavy rains continue along with high tide, the risk of floods could rise.

"The northeast monsoon would bring continuous northeast winds and could cause rough seas and large waves in South China Sea," he said in a statement on Thursday.

He added the high tide phenomena was expected between Nov 6 to Nov 11, Nov 22 to Nov 27, Dec 7 to Dec 12, Dec 22 to Dec 26, 2022, and Jan 6 to Jan 10 as well as Jan 21 to Jan 25, 2023.

Many are advised to be prepared and face the season by constantly staying informed with advice and warnings released through the department's official portal.
