SHAH ALAM - Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) is a new concept in the political field which aims to help the people who are voiceless in politics.

GTA chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said coalition acted as a platform for everyone to have a say in the nation building.

"We want people who are voiceless and who are not in the mainstream of politics also to have a say.

"Although they can't participate in politics, they can influence the government that they chose and if they want to as an individual, they can join GTA,” he said.

The former fourth and seventh prime minister said they offered the concept of not only political parties but also non-government organisations and individuals who had to contest as independent candidates.

While being independent was ineffective, he further added these candidates could join GTA instead of contesting under independent for a better impact so that what they had to say would be heard within the government.

Dr Mahathir told Sinar Daily during the exclusive interview in the latest episode of Fireside Chat.

The GTA coalition was established last August, which comprised of four parties which were the Pejuang, Parti Perikatan India Muslim Nasional (Iman), Parti Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa) and Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra).

However, since the coalition was not approved under the Registry of Societies (RoS), it would contest under the Pejuang logo for the GE15.

The GTA and Pejuang chairman had said it was the same scenario as the last general election when the registration of both Pakatan Harapan and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia ran into problems, causing the Opposition to use PKR’s logo to stand in the polls.
