KUANTAN - A general worker's life in Gebeng changed drastically after he was confirmed to be suffering a bone cancer for almost two months.
The hardworking man Muhammad Adli Azahar, 29, was forced to quit in March because he was no longer able to withstand the pain suffered on his right shoulder.
He said the pain felt on his right shoulder was initially assumed to be a typical sprain, where he sought traditional remedies through a massage.
"The pain was still felt after and my shoulder was swelling, which forced me to go for further screening in Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA). At the time, the doctor had informed I was suffering a stiff shoulder and I was given painkillers.
"However, the pain gradually became serious up to a point where I had trouble sleeping and I took a decision to stop working because I was not able to withstand the pain," he said when met in his home at Taman Baloj Sejahtera, here.
Adli said the second screening in HTAA was on Aug 19, and the day after it was referred to the Indera Mahkota International Islam University Malaysia (IIUM) Specialist Clinic.
He said the doctor ran an X-ray, CT scan Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), took blood and flesh samples to test and detect the disease.
"The medical expert confirmed the examination results and confirmed I was diagnosed with bone cancer or Ostecarcoma on Sept 12.
"My heart sank for a moment. My world darkened because I remembered the pain and swelling. I thought to myself - if it was a normal fracture and if screws were put in, it would be fine, but Allah tested otherwise," Adli said.
He said the swelling on his shoulder was growing quickly within two months and is now reaching the size of a football.
Adli said due to the swelling his movements have been restricted up to a point where he needed intensive care from his wife Nurul Effa Syamira Faimi, 25.
He said because of the pain becoming increasingly serious, he needed to go through the surgery immediately to remove the growth.
The eldest of five siblings said the decision to operate would be made after going through the fourth chemotherapy session.
"I recently did two chemotherapy sessions in the Kuala Lumpur Hospital of the 11 sessions, I was informed after the fourth session I will go through another MRI, CT Scan and blood tests before the doctor decides regarding the metal implants.
"Following the prices of metal (to replace bones) it is only RM38,000, not including surgery costs, treatment charges, medicine costs, food, travel costs for the follow-up treatment to be delayed.
"I don't have savings to cover the costs and I am now depending on the help of my mother and families," he said.
Those interested to help could channel their donations by contacting Adli on 017-907 5973 or through the CIMB account 7607317219 under his name.
