KUALA LUMPUR - Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) has executed the access agreement (AA) with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) on Oct 30 to subscribe to the latter’s regulated 5G services including, but not limited to the national 5G wholesale network product.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, TM said under the AA, DNB would provide the national 5G wholesale network product, which is a base product on the DNB 5G access network to TM that commenced retrospectively on Oct 7 2022 until the expiry of 10 years on Oct 6 2032.
"TM must subscribe to the national 5G wholesale network product in order to gain access to other 5G services offered by DNB,” the telecommunications giant said.
It said the signing of the AA demonstrated TM’s commitment to long-term value creation for its stakeholders by leveraging on 5G technology to deliver best-in-class connectivity, solutions and customer experience.
"5G will accelerate TM’s aim in offering fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) and advanced digital solutions to meet the dynamic and growing needs of communities, enterprises, industry and nation,” it said.
TM said with about 2.9 million fixed broadband subscribers as of the first half of 2022, the provisioning of 5G services would enhance TM’s position as the preferred partner in accelerating the adoption of FMC via 5G and fixed broadband solutions.
It said through TM’s comprehensive network infrastructure, innovative products and services, the upskilling and acquisition of technology talents, TM is well-placed to support the nation’s digital economy aspirations.
"In addition to enabling the 5G ecosystem as a partner to DNB for faster infrastructure roll-out, TM will also serve as a key FMC provider towards realising Malaysia’s digital economy aspirations,” it said.
TM was among the four mobile network operators (MNOs) which executed the share subscription agreements (SSAs) for a total 65 per cent equity stake in DNB in early October.
Under the SSAs, TM and YTL Communications Sdn Bhd (YES) took a 20 per cent stake each while Celcom Axiata Bhd and Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd took a 12.5 per cent stake each while the government held the remaining 35 per cent and a golden share in DNB. - BERNAMA
